Choose grid spacing by task
A 5 mm square is a practical default for school mathematics, charts, and compact diagrams. Wider 10 mm squares leave more room for early learners, labels, knitting charts, and large construction sketches.
PaperMe stores the spacing in millimeters rather than scaling a background image. Print one test page at 100% or Actual Size before relying on the grid for measurement.
Keep pencil marks readable
Light blue or gray lines usually stay visible without competing with graphite and ink. Increase line width only when a printer drops very fine strokes; darker lines can make dense grids tiring to use.
Leave extra margin on the binding edge when the sheet will be punched or placed in a notebook. The preview shows the printable area before export.
Export for accurate printing
PDF is the safest choice for routine printing because page dimensions remain explicit. SVG is useful when a designer needs to edit line colors or combine the grid with another worksheet.
Disable Fit to Page in the print dialog when square dimensions matter. Printer hardware can still impose a non-printable edge, so verify one square with a ruler after the first print.
